Photosensitivity Kit is professionally formulated to support a normal immune response to both primary and secondary photosensitivity in horses and livestock in conjunction with veterinary management.

Photosensitisation is a condition where the skin becomes abnormally sensitive to sunlight due to the presence of compounds in the bloodstream which are then activated by UV light, causing damage to the skin that looks like sunburn, often with ulceration and the build up of fluid. The affected areas are usually where there is less pigment or less hair to block the UV rays, so muzzles, eyelids and tips of ears are commonly affected.

Photosensitivity Kit contains Photosensitivity Support - 1 Litre jerry canLiver Plus 1 Litre jerry can and 90ml bottle of Puffiness Plus.

Photosensitivity Support is given twice daily when symptoms are present and then once the skin looks healthy, reducing the doses until the least number of doses to maintain normal healthy skin is found, this may be once a day or once a week depending on several factors such as the ability to provide protection from sunlight, the overall health of the horse/livestock and the grazing conditions.

Supporting the liver in photosensitive animals (especially horses) is important because an under-functioning liver that is unable to rid the bloodstream of fluorescing compounds is a common factor in photosensitivity. Hippo Health's Liver Plus is recommended for use alongside Photosensitivity Plus. Liver Plus is ideally added to the water trough so the horse receives several doses each day, whenever they drink. Liver Plus is not harmful to other horses sharing the trough and is competition and racing safe.

Hippo Health also has a blend formulated for use during an acute flare up, in conjunction with veterinary care. Puffiness Plus supports a normal immune response  swelling /oedema, inflammation and broken or ulcerated skin, targeting discomfort and the risk of infection.

We sell these three remedies as a Photosensitivity kit or they can be bought separately.

Pump Bottles
A dose consists of 2 pumps of remedy onto the tongue, gums or lips. Can also be given on a piece of food. Most horses love the sweet taste but if your horse is nervous about being dosed, you can put the dose on your finger and dab it on their lips or gums. They do not need to swallow the dose, it just has to come into contact with their tongue or gums.
Dose until symptoms are gone, then reduce dosing to once a week to maintain.

Jerry Cans
Water troughs – tip one capful (25ml) or 1 pump into the water trough every second day.
Feed – tip ½ capful (12ml), or ½ pump, on to feed twice daily.
Dose until symptoms are gone, then reduce dosing to once a week to maintain.

This remedy can be continued long term.

Forever grateful

Last summer my horse had uncontrollable photosensitive dermatitis (spent over $2k with vets, trying to fix) he had UV boots on all summer...I contacted hippo health mid last year and got a lot of help and advice from their amazing staff, this summer my beautiful boy has no sign of any scabs or anything. The two products cost me $180 including shipping and it's so easy to use (straight in his water) I can't recommend or thank hippo health any more! Forever grateful
