    DOSING

    When to Dose

    Photosensitivity Support can assist with prevention and symptoms of photosensitisation, where skin becomes abnormally sensitive to sunlight due to compounds in the blood stream which are activated by UV light. Symptoms can include damage to the skin that looks like sunburn in areas where there is less pigment and hair, such as muzzles, eyelids and tips of the ears, often with ulceration and a build-up of fluid 

    How To Dose

    Dose twice daily when symptoms are present, reducing dosing frequency once the skin looks healthy again. The frequency of maintenance dosing depends on the ability for the horse to shelter from sunlight, their overall health and grazing conditions. As a result, maintenance dosing can be once a day, or as infrequent as once a week.

    90ml Pump Bottle

    Give 2 pumps into the mouth or on a treat that wont absorb it, like carrot or apple twice daily, reducing dosing frequency once skin is back to normal health.

    90 ml Pump Bottle = 230 doses (2 pumps per dose)

    Bottles are food grade aluminium with a hygienic serum pump lid and over cap. Great for dosing on the go.

    Jerry Can Dosing

    Water Trough – add 25ml's - one capful or 1 Jerry Can pump - of remedy into the water trough every second day. Dose volume is calculated for a 500-litre water trough.

    Feed – add 12ml's - ½ capful (12ml) or ½ pump - on to feed twice daily.

    Reduce dosing frequency once skin has returned to normal health.

    Our robust jerry cans are made from food grade plastic.

    Photosensitivity suuport is amazing!

    My sensitive mare got a case of mud rash/ photosensitivity in early autumn when we moved to a new region. She has a history of it being hard to clear up and becoming very reative to having her legs handled.

    After realising it had taken hold I started trough dosing with mud and rain and photosensitivity support and a daily dose of liver plus.

    It took a month of being patient and letting it work, but after a week or so it was obvious it wasn't getting worse and soon the scabs were drying up and dropping off.

    A month on it's clean.m. healthy pink skin, waiting on the hair to regrow.

    No stress, no fuss. Love it!

    Wow - scabs gone in 10 days!

    Pablo had horrific scabs. His usual treatments didn’t work. Photos show the difference after 4 days of treatment. The scabs on my palomino’s nose cleared up too!

    Hippo Health does it again

    Vet had diagnosed our poor horse with photosensitivity we decided to give the Hippo Health Photosensitivity spray a try after having great success with other products in the future. This was an amazing product and results started to show after a few days. Two weeks later and fully cleared! Pictures speak for themselves but would highly recommend this product and other Hippo Health products!

    Mud Fever and Photosensitivity can present with similar symptoms, but they're actually different conditions, caused by different factors, which means they need to be treated differently too.  While Photosensitivity is caused by your horse ingesting fluorescing chemicals in lush green grass, Mud Fever / Greasy Heel starts when bacteria enter the body, usually through broken skin. 

    If there is lots of lush green grass around or there is algae in the water trough, you might be dealing with photosensitivity, or if “mud fever” is not responding to usual treatments.

    This remedy won’t cause any adverse effects, but the ingredients will only activate when they come into contact with a mucous membrane such as the tongue, gums or lips.

    Adding 25mls (1oz) of remedy from our Jerry Can to a 500L (100-gallon) water trough every second day is enough to dose all of the animals that drink from that trough. With homeopathic remedies, the dilution ratio doesn’t have to be exact.
