HOPE TAYLOR BEERLING – AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL RIDER TAKING ON THE BEST IN THE USA

We chatted with Hippo Sponsored Rider Hope about being an Australian rider working and competing in the USA, her love of dressage and her latest venture taking horses and clients in for training. We’re so excited to be part of her journey and hope you’ll enjoy getting to know her too!

    Tell us about your horse

"After living in the USA for the past five and a half years without my own horse, I recently purchased one! Her stable name is Penny, and her competition name is PS I Love You. My friend, Ele Carroll, who lives in Germany, found her for me. As soon as she sent me the videos, I knew I had to buy her. Penny is a 5-year-old mare by Escamillo and out of a Florencio mare. I believe she’ll be something very special in the future. She has three excellent gaits and is incredibly rideable and trainable. She’s such a sweetheart, and I’m so excited to watch her grow and blossom."

What’s your favourite discipline to compete in, and why?

My favourite discipline is definitely dressage because it requires such a unique connection with the horse to be able to step into the arena and perform as one. You could have the most expensive or talented horse in the world, but if you don’t have a strong connection or understanding of each other, it’s unlikely to translate in the arena. That bond is everything. I also love seeing the horses develop through my training—it’s incredibly rewarding."

What achievement in your riding career are you most proud of?

There are a few achievements I’m particularly proud of that have shaped my journey. The one that stands out the most is placing 2nd in the world at the 2023 World Young Horse Championships with Vianne. Another highlight is the 2021 Festival of Champions in Chicago, where Vianne and I were reserve champions in the 5-year-old division with an end score of 92%. Being named to the Australian Nations Cup Team in both 2021 and 2023 was also a huge honour. In 2024, I had three 7-year-olds ranked in the top 10 in the USA. Now, in 2025, I’m taking a new step by opening my own independent business based year-round in Florida."

Which Hippo Health remedies do you use the most?

“I have two all-time favourite remedies. I love Sol Plus, but it’s the Mud & Rain remedy that changed my life when I was living and riding in Australia. My horse’s greasy heel was so bad it actually started scarring, but after 2 weeks of using the remedy the scabs started to fall off and after 3 weeks it was gone completely. After this he could be in the field whether it was rain, hail or shine and it never came back.

Since being in America our horses have the most amazing grooming routines and are only turned out in dry paddocks so I haven’t experienced greasy heel here. But when we go to Florida every 6 months we know the horses will have bad skin reactions. This year we started our horses on the Mud & Rain (Scratches) remedy as soon as we arrived and so far not one horse has had a problem - which is a miracle because I have been coming here for 4 years and every year we have AT LEAST 4 horses break out with skin infections.”

    What’s next for you?

I recently decided to part ways with Norcordia to start my own business, taking horses and clients in for training, which I’m really excited about. One of my goals is to qualify my own horse for the Festival of Champions in Chicago this year. Depending on her progress, a potential start in the 6-year-old CDI classes next winter would be an added bonus. As I venture into this new chapter, the future is a bit of a question mark since I’m not sure yet which horses I’ll have in training. However, I’m currently coaching a few para riders who are aiming for LA 2028, and helping them get there would be an incredible achievement. Competing at the LA Olympics myself is also a dream—I believe what’s meant to be will be."

How old were you when you started riding?

“I was practically born on a horse. My older sister rode horses so I spent a lot of time around stables when I was young, and that love and passion just got stronger every year.”

Aside from horse riding, what else do you like to do?

Now that I’m starting my own business, I plan to work five and a half days a week. For the remaining one and a half days, I’ll focus on recovery, planning for the upcoming week, and enjoying some downtime. I love jet skiing, boating, hanging out with friends, and trying new restaurants—it’s a nice way to recharge and stay balanced."

    What’s your favourite food?

    “Sushi – 100%!”

    What is your kryptonite?

“I’m an overthinker and always worry about other peoples’ opinions.”
