Hippo Health's ground breaking Scratches / Greasy Heel / Mud Fever & Rain Scald formulation heals from the inside out. No need to touch the legs, scrape off scabs or apply bandages and creams. Simply dose twice daily on a treat (horses love the sweet taste) and wait while the remedy does its work. Once healing is complete, the scabs fall off by themselves to reveal clear, healthy skin underneath. Once healed, you only need to dose at weekends to maintain.

How does it work? Our formulation supports the natural immune response of the horse (or livestock) to conditions caused by Dermatophilus congolensis bacteria i.e. scratches / mud fever / greasy heel / mud rash and rain scald / rain rot. By building up the immune system, you not only overcome the condition but you are left with a horse that has no ill effects from the treatment.

Safe, non-toxic ingredients
Safe to use alongside prescription medications
Competition and Racing safe (not swab-able)
Safe for pregnant and lactating mares
Alcohol free

All remedies have a shelf life of 2 years

Made in New Zealand. 100% Natural and Non-toxic. Homeopathic Preparation.

Contains equal parts of: Graphites, Natrum muriaticum, Petrolatum - note this is in non-toxic homeopathic form, Phytolacca, Staphisagria, Sulphur
Base: Vegetable glycerine & purified water

Pump Bottles
A dose consists of 2 pumps of remedy, twice a day, onto the tongue, gums or lips.
Can also be given on a piece of food. Most horses love the sweet taste but if your horse is nervous about being dosed, you can put the dose on your finger and dab it on their lips or gums. They do not need to swallow the dose, it just has to come into contact with their tongue or gums.
Dose twice a day until symptoms are gone, then reduce dosing to once a week to maintain.

Jerry Cans
Water troughs – tip one capful (25ml) or 1 pump (25ml) into the water trough every second day.
Feed – tip ½ capful (12ml), or ½ pump (12ml), on to feed twice daily.
Once symptoms are gone, reduce dosing to once a week to maintain.

Remedies are dispensed either in a 90ml food grade aluminium bottle with a hygienic serum pump lid with over-cap or in food grade plastic jerry cans, sized 1 litre, 2 litres and 5 litres  The 5 litre jerry cans come with a free dispensing pump. The pump can also be bought separately for the smaller jerry cans.

90ml bottle = 230 doses

1 litre jerry can = 80 days continuous cover via water troughs (dosing every second day) or 40 days dosing on feed (twice daily). *Maintenance dosing is once a week so product will last a lot longer.

2 litre jerry can = 160 days continuous cover via water troughs (dosing every second day) or 80 days dosing on feed (twice daily). *Maintenance dosing is once a week so product will last a lot longer.

5 litre jerry can = 400 days continuous cover via water troughs (dosing every second day) or 200 days dosing on feed (twice daily). *Maintenance dosing is once a week so product will last a lot longer.

This remedy can be continued long term. However reducing the frequency of dose when there are no symptoms present ensures the horse/livestock avoid desensitising to the remedy.Would this work for rain scald along the top line & over the rump areas?

Yes it does, even on bad cases. Yes it does help the itch. Active manuka honey, which is an amazing healer usually costs more (per horse) than our Mud and Rain and it also has to be applied on the legs. A big advantage of our product is that it is given orally on a treat or in the trough, it couldn't be easier, no need to scrape, scrub or apply creams. You need to leave the scabs alone and let the healing happen on its own. If you need help with heavy/nasty and moist scabbing then use Mud and Rain. If it is a severe case then twice daily dosing will be needed. You can give the 2 doses half an hour apart if you only visit the grazing once a day, once when you catch them and once when you turn them out. Healing time varies from 5-7 days for mild cases, 3 weeks for severe cases.

Rain Scald.. What Rain Scald :)

My 29 year old TBxID gelding took a bad bout of rain scald this year for the first time in his life.

I tried leaving it alone.... Didn't work.... Hibiscrub baths......didnt work...... Clipping hair off...... Didn't work.

A few good friends suggested I try this and they swear by it.

Within a week his skin was healed, I was amazed, iv owned this boy for 24 years and he has never healed any cut, scab etc as quick.

Thanks so much to Fiona and the team for all their help and advice.

Iv also got him on laminitis prevention aid and cushings support.

Mud and Rain

Had huge problem with Scratches . 17.1 hh Freisian had so bad he had no ankles and shins swelled as well. Was shocked at small ammount needed and short time to see results. Shins went down in a couple days and ankle scabs and scar tissue began disappearing within a couple weeks. Maybe took longer for him because was so bad to start, but within 1 1/2 months ....ANKLES ! HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! Truly improved quality of life ....Thank you

Mud and Rain - Yet another superb product!

One particular mare has suffered from mud and rain scald for years every winter. Nothing has alleviated the onset of this plague, but by adding this amazing product to her water and by using it on her particularly, she improved beyond any other remedy before. Totally will use this product again and earlier than the winter onset to ensure she has a built up immunity to this malady.

Amazing product!

My gelding has severe greasy heal and I had been applying clove oil spray and zinc with little improvement for months, his legs were sore to touch. After 1 week on this treatment all tenderness was gone and the scabs starting to fall off. 3 weeks in now and it’s almost completely healed!! (Photos before and after 2 weeks)

Great Results with Mud & Rain

I have been battling mud fever with a big grey thoroughbred for the past 5 years. I have tried everything and other natural remedies but each time I would get to a point and not go past it. I only bought the 1l bottle as I thought that I would end up with the same results. In fact I have received excellent results and have surpassed all previous attempts without all the expensive creams and chemicals. In fact I have just ordered my second shipment. Would highly recommend this product.
