Natural Ways to Manage PMS, Menopause, and Low Libido in Women

Hormonal imbalances can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms - hot flashes, low libido, irritability, bloating and then there’s the night sweats that lead to broken sleep. Some manage these with a few simple lifestyle changes, while others need more support or medication. If you’re looking for natural ways to manage PMS, menopause and low libido, we’ve got a few remedies you might like to try.

    MANAGING HORMONE IMBALANCES

Reducing caffeine and alcohol, eating a healthier diet, staying hydrated, limiting sugary foods and drinks and exercising for 30 minutes or more several times a week are all common ways to alleviate the effects of a hormone imbalance. For women who find lifestyle changes don't make enough of a difference, or those who would rather find an option that doesn't involve giving up the things they enjoy, there are a range of supplements, remedies and medications on offer.

    Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Many women experience hormonal symptoms in the days or weeks leading up to their period. There can be mood swings, irritability, and a craving for personal space, as well as the physical symptoms of bloating, breast tenderness, breakouts and headaches. Our PMS Plus remedy is formulated to help the body copy with normal monthly fluctuations in the lead up to, and during, menstruation.

Humans aren’t the only animals to experience PMS – and if you own a mare you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about! Our Mares Plus remedy is part of our equine range to help promote normal hormonal cycling when a mare is in season.

    Menopause and Peri-Menopause

It might be part of the normal aging process, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun! Menopause can bring with it a range of uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, bladder weakness, irritability, problems sleeping, lack of libido and vaginal dryness.

Lifestyle changes can be helpful, but often additional support is needed which is why we’ve developed these remedies.

    Hot Flashes

Hot flashes in women are usually caused by a decrease in estrogen production causing the feeling that you’re boiling from the inside out! This sensation is caused by changes in the blood vessels near the surface of the skin, which can dilate and cause a rapid increase in body temperature. While they are quite normal, they are uncomfortable and can strike at the worst possible time.

Our Hot Flashes Plus – Menopause Support remedy is formulated to support common symptoms. It comes in a hand-bag sized pump bottle making it easy to keep handy and can be used alongside any prescription medicines including those for hormone replacement.

    Libido

Hormonal changes can result in low libido in women affecting both sexual function and desire. The physical changes during menopause can cause issues with body image and self-esteem, while psychological changes such as mood swings and anxiety can reduce the desire for intimacy. Add in the physical changes such as fatigue from lack of sleep and vaginal dryness and it’s not exactly party time!

Our newest remedy called Her-O is formulated to put more vavavoom in the bedroom by promoting an increase in libido for women of all ages and stages.

Sometimes it's the men in our lives who experience difficulty with desire, so we've just launched a remedy called Natural Man just for them.

    Broken Sleep

Lower levels of estrogen associated with the stages of menopause can lead to can lead to a decrease in serotonin levels, which can make it harder to get a good night’s sleep, leading to increased irritability during the day.

There are many relaxation techniques and apps available to help promote sleep. There’s also our Sleep Plus remedy that can help with falling asleep, and with getting back to sleep for those that wake during the night.

    Bladder Weakness

Lower estrogen levels can also affect the tissues and muscles that support the bladder and urethra, leading to weakness that results in leakages. Sometimes these are due to activities such as laughing, sneezing, coughing or exercising, and sometimes it’s simply a sudden and intense urge to wee that is difficult to control.

Pelvic floor exercises and help to strengthen the muscles to improve bladder control. You might also want to try our Bladder Tone Plus remedy – and while it doesn’t cure incontinence, it can provide the support needed for normal bladder control.

    Hair and Nails

Some women notice a change in the health of their skin, hair and nails during menopause. While some of this can be due to genetics, diet and staying hydrated, lower estrogen levels means the body no longer maintains the collagen and oil production that give strength and elasticity to skin, hair and nails.

While supplements can help, our Healthy Hair & Nails remedy is formulated to help with the uptake of the vitamins and minerals already present in a normal healthy diet to keep hair and nails looking and feeling great.
