    DOSING

    When to Dose

Start dosing as soon as biting bugs make an appearance. This innovative natural horse supplement works to subtly change the body odour of the horse so biting bugs no longer see it as their next meal. Allow a week for this remedy to start taking effect. This remedy does not protect from diseases carried by ticks, including paralysis Ticks, so it’s important to contact your veterinarian if disease occurs.

    How to Dose

Ticks Plus works best when it is added to the water trough – both for repelling bugs and for dosing multiple animals. It can also be dosed straight into the mouth or onto a treat or feed. Continue dosing until Ticks, Mosquitos, Flies and Midges are no longer a problem.

    Jerry Can Dosing

Water trough - add 25ml's - one capful or 1 Jerry Can pump - of remedy into the water trough every second day. This dosing method is likely to give the best results. Dose volume is calculated for a 500-litre water trough and can provide coverage for multiple animals.

    Feed – add 12ml's - ½ capful (12ml) or ½ pump - on to feed twice daily.

Continue dosing until insect season is over.

Our robust jerry cans are made from food grade plastic.

    90ml Pump Bottle

Give 2 pumps onto the tongue, gums or lips, or on a piece of food that wont absorb it, like carrot or apple twice daily.

Water Bucket – add 5 pumps into a water bucket daily.

Continue dosing until insect season is over.

90 ml Pump Bottle = 230 doses (2 pumps per dose)

Bottles are food grade aluminium with a hygienic serum pump lid and over cap. Great for dosing on the go.

    REVIEWS

Ticks Plus is specifically formulated for horses. While it is a safe and non-toxic remedy, for other animals, we recommend using the appropriate product from our dedicated range:

Yes. Ticks Plus is a 100% natural, non-toxic remedy. It is safe for long-term use and can be used confidently on pregnant or lactating mares.

It is also competition-safe (not swab-able). You can use it before, during, and after any competition without concern.

Ticks Plus is absorbed into your horse's system and begins working by subtly adjusting their body odour. You can expect to see results within 7 days.

Tip: To ensure maximum effectiveness when the tick population peaks, we recommend starting the daily dose 10 to 14 days before the tick season is fully underway.

Ticks Plus works internally to create a subtle change in your horse's body odour, making them less appealing to ticks and midges. This significantly reduces the tick and midge load.

However, no single product can offer a 100% guarantee of elimination. We still recommend daily visual checks as part of complete tick management.

Ticks Plus is a 100% natural, non-toxic, and alcohol-free formulation.

It works internally by natural odour change to repel ticks, rather than working externally as a chemical pesticide to kill them. This gentle approach avoids exposing your horse's skin or system to harsh, synthetic chemicals often found in 'spot-on' or spray treatments.

Ticks Plus is a preventative and supportive remedy that repels ticks, reducing the likelihood of attachment. However, it does not provide protection from tick-borne diseases such as Anaplasmosis, Lyme disease, or the effects of a Paralysis Tick bite.

Given the potential risks, it is crucial to perform daily tick checks on your horse, even when using Ticks Plus or any other tick repellent on the market.

Combining Ticks Plus with good pasture management creates a more robust defence against ticks. Consider these practical techniques:

    • Keep grass mown short: Ticks often reside in longer grass. Keeping fields closely mown makes the environment less hospitable.
    • Clear fence lines: Ticks often congregate along fence lines and areas bordering bush or scrub. Clear these areas regularly.
    • Encourage natural predators: Predators like guinea fowl and certain bird species can help control the local tick population naturally.

To safely remove an attached tick, the technique needs to ensure no parts of the tick (e.g. its mouthparts) remain embedded in the horse’s skin. Avoid squeezing or squashing of the tick.

Use fine-pointed tweezers or a dedicated tick removal tool. Grasp the tick as close to your horse's skin as possible, then pull straight outwards with a slow, steady motion. Do not twist or jerk the tick.

Like all Hippo Health products, this product comes with a money back guarantee for anyone not pleased with the results.

Adding 25mls (1oz) of remedy from our Jerry Can to a 500L (100-gallon) water trough every second day is enough to dose all of the animals that drink from that trough. With homeopathic remedies, the dilution ratio doesn’t have to be exact. The active ingredients disperse through the trough using the hydrogen particles in the water, so each animal gets a fresh dose every time they take a drink. Regardless of how much – or little – water is in the trough, the potency of the remedy will be the same. Adding our remedies to a water trough means a new dose is administered every time an animal takes a drink. The trough doesn't need to be emptied and refilled between doses as the sunlight destroys any residues after three days.
