Yes. Ticks Plus is a 100% natural, non-toxic remedy. It is safe for long-term use and can be used confidently on pregnant or lactating mares.

It is also competition-safe (not swab-able). You can use it before, during, and after any competition without concern.

Ticks Plus is absorbed into your horse's system and begins working by subtly adjusting their body odour. You can expect to see results within 7 days.

Tip: To ensure maximum effectiveness when the tick population peaks, we recommend starting the daily dose 10 to 14 days before the tick season is fully underway.

Ticks Plus works internally to create a subtle change in your horse's body odour, making them less appealing to ticks and midges. This significantly reduces the tick and midge load.

However, no single product can offer a 100% guarantee of elimination. We still recommend daily visual checks as part of complete tick management.

It works internally by natural odour change to repel ticks, rather than working externally as a chemical pesticide to kill them. This gentle approach avoids exposing your horse's skin or system to harsh, synthetic chemicals often found in 'spot-on' or spray treatments.

Ticks Plus is a preventative and supportive remedy that repels ticks, reducing the likelihood of attachment. However, it does not provide protection from tick-borne diseases such as Anaplasmosis, Lyme disease, or the effects of a Paralysis Tick bite.

Given the potential risks, it is crucial to perform daily tick checks on your horse, even when using Ticks Plus or any other tick repellent on the market.

Combining Ticks Plus with good pasture management creates a more robust defence against ticks. Consider these practical techniques:

• Keep grass mown short: Ticks often reside in longer grass. Keeping fields closely mown makes the environment less hospitable.
• Clear fence lines: Ticks often congregate along fence lines and areas bordering bush or scrub. Clear these areas regularly.
• Encourage natural predators: Predators like guinea fowl and certain bird species can help control the local tick population naturally.

To safely remove an attached tick, the technique needs to ensure no parts of the tick (e.g. its mouthparts) remain embedded in the horse’s skin. Avoid squeezing or squashing of the tick.

Use fine-pointed tweezers or a dedicated tick removal tool. Grasp the tick as close to your horse's skin as possible, then pull straight outwards with a slow, steady motion. Do not twist or jerk the tick.

Adding 25mls (1oz) of remedy from our Jerry Can to a 500L (100-gallon) water trough every second day is enough to dose all of the animals that drink from that trough. With homeopathic remedies, the dilution ratio doesn’t have to be exact.
