When to Dose

What is Sweet Itch? Horses being being bitten by the Culicoides Midge (also known as Queensland Itch or Summer Itch) are often itchy in the mane, tail or rump area. They may rub these areas constantly, leading to raw and broken skin which can result in more severe infection, so it’s important to treat any itchy skin quickly.

You can expect to see the remedy working within the first week, usually after day 3. Further improvement continues over the coming weeks as the formulation supports the normal functioning of the immune system.
Dose until symptoms are gone, then reduce dosing to once a week to maintain.

Works for dogs too. Just add about half a teaspoon to their water bowl.

How to Dose

Dose via the water trough or by adding to feed. You should see a change within 3-7 days, with further improvements as the weeks progress and the normal immune response builds.

Jerry Can Dosing

Water trough - add 25mls - one capful or 1 Jerry Can pump - of remedy into the water trough every second day. Dose volume is calculated for a 500-litre water trough and can provide coverage for multiple animals.

Feed – add 12mls - ½ capful (12ml) or ½ pump - on to feed twice daily.

1 litre = 80 days continuous cover via water troughs (dosing every second day) or 40 days dosing on feed (twice daily). *Maintenance dosing is once a week so product will last a lot longer.

Dose until symptoms ease, then reduce dosing to once a week for maintenance.

Hi Gina, sorry to hear that the remedy wasn't more effective. There are a few things that can affect it.
It needs to be stored somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight.
When temps are over 30 deg you will need to dose the trough daily.
You need to avoid using any essential oils, like neem, citronella, tea tree etc.. often found in sprays and ointments.
You need to avoid using zinc.

I wanted the sweet itch product to work but I did not notice any significant changes from using for 2 months and not a bad summer (wet) season. I did not change routine, still rugging at night and definitely could not stop rugging the mildly itchy ponies as they are still rubbing exposed anreas and I’m still applying cream to rub spots. Maybe a small help but mossies have not been bad this year.

Thanks for your review. There are a few things that can affect the efficiency of the remedy. Can you let us know how you were dosing. Amount frequency, method and we will see what we can do to help 😊.
Essential oils like neem, citronella and tea tree, often found in fly sprays and ointments can neutralise the remedy and also zinc.
The remedy needs to be stored somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight and in temps over 30 deg the trough will need to be dosed daily. 🦛

Qld itch in mid nth coast nsw.

Sweet itch formula, dosed in a 220L water trough seems to be working. Itch isn't completely gone but it has reduced dramatically with no other treatments other than hippo health sweet itch and full time mesh rugs on my mini mare. She's still very itchy but I put that down to her hair and skin growing back. She almost looks like a normal horse now! No longer moth-eaten, bald and no open sores!
