  • Ticks Plus Natural Tick Repellent for Livestock

by Fiona Lane February 08, 2024

Ticks Plus Livestock is a 100% natural tick repellent for cows, sheep, goats, pigs and other farm animals

Ticks Plus – Livestock is an effective, natural tick repellent for cows, sheep, pigs, goats and other farm animals. Dosed via the water trough, it is easy to administer and very cost effective for those managing a whole herd, or multiple types of livestock drinking from a shared water trough. Keep reading to find out more about our natural tick repellent for livestock, how trough dosing works and whether there is any with-holding period when using this natural remedy.

How does a natural tick repellent for livestock work?

Ticks Plus - Livestock is 100% natural so doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals. Instead, this groundbreaking remedy simply changes the natural body odour of a cow, sheep, pig, goat or other farm animal just enough that a hungry tick can no longer detect dosed livestock as a source of food. The change in body odour is so subtle it’s undetectable to humans and other animals – even those in the same herd. It can take a week for this remedy to take effect, then dosing can continue through the summer months while biting bugs are an issue.

    How does oral dosing work?

The homeopathic active ingredients in this remedy only need to come into contact with a mucous membrane such as the tongue and lips to activate. The body registers the remedy almost immediately, so the actual size or volume of the dose doesn’t matter – it’s the frequency of dosing that makes the difference.

Adding our remedies to a water trough means a new dose is administered every time an animal takes a drink. The trough doesn't need to be emptied and refilled between doses as the sunlight destroys any residues after three days.

    How does trough dosing work?

Adding 25mls (1oz) of remedy from our Jerry Can to a 500L (100-gallon) water trough every second day is enough to dose all of the animals that drink from that trough. With homeopathic remedies, the dilution ratio doesn’t have to be exact. The active ingredients disperse through the trough using the hydrogen particles in the water, so each animal gets a fresh dose every time they take a drink. Regardless of how much – or little – water is in the trough, the potency of the remedy will be the same.

What if I use a really big trough?

One capful of remedy is enough to dose a 500 litre / 130 gallon water trough. If your trough is bigger than that, simply add 2 capfuls of remedy. We provide specific dosing instructions with each remedy.

How do I dose more than one animal?

Our Ticks Plus - Livestock remedy in the Jerry Cans are both easy and cost effective to use. Adding the right amount of remedy for the size of the trough will be enough to dose every animal that drinks from that trough – even if it’s a mix of cows, sheep, goats, pigs and other livestock.

Are there alternatives to trough dosing?

Yes. You can use our 90ml spray bottle to administer directly onto a mucous membrane such as the vulva, nose or tongue.

You can also add remedy from our Jerry Can to feed.

It’s important to note that the potency of remedy in our pump bottles and our jerry cans is different. Read more here.

Is Ticks Plus Livestock safe to use?

Absolutely. Our product is not a pesticide, so it doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals that kill ticks. Instead, it works gently and naturally to confuse ticks by changing the body odour of the animal being dosed – whether that be cows, sheep, goats, pigs or other livestock. That means this remedy is safe to use long-term.

Can it be used on calves, lambs, piglets and young livestock?

Yes. Our Ticks Plus -  Livestock remedy is 100% natural and made from safe, non-toxic ingredients. So it’s not only safe for young animals, it’s also safe to use on animals that are pregnant and lactating.

    Is there a with-holding period?

No, as this is a homeopathic formulation, there is no with-holding period.

Can Ticks Plus Livestock be used alongside other medications?

Our formulations are gentle and non-toxic, making them safe to use alongside medicines prescribed by veterinarians.

Can Ticks Plus Livestock repel other biting bugs?

Yes. Our Ticks Plus - Livestock remedy is also formulated to repel mosquitos and midges, and can also work on Buffalo Flies, Stable Flies and Blow Flies. We recommend trough dosing as the most effective method for this. Unfortunately, Horse Flies rely on visual cues rather than odour to identify hosts, which means Ticks Plus - Livestock won’t be effective against these pests.

Can Ticks Plus Livestock be used on other animals?

It certainly can, although we do make a specific formulation for both horses and pets.

    Does it work?

We get positive feedback and reviews on our website from customers who have used our remedies on their cows, sheep, goats, pigs and other livestock and had good results.

We think our Ticks Plus - Livestock is a game changer – making management of ticks, flies and mozzies stress free, mess free and super economical. Plus, we offer a money back guarantee!
